Pretend to be reading a book
Avatar
So as I said, lie to get them off your back.

As another said, take walks. Do seemingly harmless activities but actually work on your tulpa.
6:04 PM
A popular method of forcing is narration, where you interract with your tulpa even while doing other activities anyway.
6:05 PM
And in my opinion, basing them off of a character is probably fine, but ultimately meaningless. As soon as they are able to choose, you should let them change their form.
6:07 PM
I never chose to give my tulpa a form, as it seemed unecessary, but she selected one for herself anyway, and that form appears in my head while I think of her sometimes. It's all very subjective and fluid, in my experience.
Avatar
I chose my name, form, and my personality developed naturally
6:08 PM
it wasn't planned out
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/15/2018 6:09 PM
But which element should I start with first? Many say that your tulpa chooses a form so could I make the voice, then scent, then the tulpa can choose it's form then I can work on physical contact?
Avatar
Just talk to your tulpa, I don't think worrying about that sort of stuff is necessary
Avatar
Everything will probably come with time.
Avatar
none of us have a "scent" lol
Avatar
Many late goals are generally unattainable until the tulpa is sentient, anyway, I hear.
6:11 PM
Late goals being possession, switching, and "perfect" imposition for example.
Avatar
Imposition doesn't require a tulpa at all
Avatar
I guess not.
6:13 PM
I personally don't see the value in imposing an empty shell on the world.
6:13 PM
I mean, if I'm going to impose, I'd like for it to be attached to the actual tulpa that is in my head.
Avatar
We don't have experience with imposition, nor do we really care to try it, so meh
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/15/2018 6:34 PM
So I can just talk to my tulpa and wait for it to form out itself?
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/15/2018 6:35 PM
Okay, thank you so much
Avatar
thats pretty much how you make a tulpa

I feel like I’m not giving enough attention to my Tulpa. I don’t really do much active forcing honestly. I might do it for like 5-10 minutes but if anything she’s just in my head and I think of her
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/15/2018 6:54 PM
@Deleted User Do you do any activities with her?
Avatar
try letting her speak for herself
6:55 PM
on chats

Ah, I've heard of possession. I heard it's a fun thing to practice with your tulpa as it can access multiple body parts unless those are rumors
Avatar
that's what posession is
7:01 PM
controlling the body
7:01 PM
why wouldn't it be real?
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/15/2018 7:05 PM
Ive heard some people say that possesion isn't possible for them and no matter how hard them and their tulpa have tried it doesn't work but I've also heard it's something harder to learn
7:05 PM
we switch quite frequently
7:06 PM
we don't bother with possession anymore, the novelty of the matter wore off years ago, and it serves no function for us
Avatar
Yeah. Switching is much more useful than possession, in my opinion.
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/15/2018 7:10 PM
Ah, and one thing I would like another opinion on is what was easier to help create your tulpas? Having conversations out loud or having mental conversation?
Avatar
Mental.
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/15/2018 7:10 PM
Thank you
Avatar
Conversations go faster, and you also build up the skill of communicating in raw thought without language attached.
7:11 PM
I think they're pretty functionally similar, though.
Avatar
we have some conversations out loud
7:12 PM
or half out loud
7:12 PM
when we're alone
7:13 PM
we don't have a lot of conversations though
Avatar
We started out doing that alot but the chances of someone walking up and wondering what the heck, made us re-evaluate that decision.
Avatar
we don't exactly talk loudly when we do it
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 7/15/2018 7:14 PM
Talking out loud is silly really. They're in your head, of course they can hear you anyway.
Avatar
people will just think we're mumbling to ourself
7:14 PM
talking out loud helps us keep focused
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/15/2018 7:17 PM
That's what I thought since I easily get sidetracked

There was this article that says nothing as helpful as you guys, it said the first step was imagining your tulpa naked so you can make it's form right away

FAQmans guide is very outdated
Avatar
FAQ's guide still has some useful content (I still link the personality trait template now and again) but yeah, his and most of the other older guides are largely outdated. That's why they're under the 'old guides' tab on the homepage of .info with a warning.
Avatar
@AwfulLottaAwfulThings read as many guides as you can, ask for our help, and ultimately do what feels right. The tulpa creation process is very subjective.
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/15/2018 7:31 PM
@Smeer Thank you. I just prefer talking to someone who has experience and currently interacts with their tulpa rather than online lists. It feels more accurate
Avatar
Certainly more in the moment and can offer feedback on what you are going through.

A problem I find with making my tulpa is that no matter how long I talk to my tulpa mentally, that's all I can really do. I can't see them nor hear them, I can only imagine responses. I've "talked" to them for an hour a day for a month and no progress has been seen
Avatar
Maybe 1 hour a day isn't enough. Mine was brought on by basically fantasizing about hanging out and doing things with a character about 6 hours a day for 2 weeks straight while at work. I was doing welding which was insanely dull and boring I had it down to muscle memory almost immediately. I only did that to pass the time quicker. At the end of the second week while setting up and getting ready to do the same I heard a voice ask me where we were going to be going today. I didn't even know tulpa were a thing. So my recommendation is to try for more, I don't know how much time you can spend. But more. Try and make a habit of always keeping them on your mind. Even If you arnt actually talking to them or whatever. It's the thought that counts after all.
Avatar
Breloomancer 7/15/2018 9:12 PM
For the first two weeks or so I forced almost all day and that worked out pretty well for me, lots of people say that they cant hear their tulpa for a long time and have to learn to listen
Avatar
What I'm doing, and what I hesitantly recommend, is to keep your tulpa in mind and talk at them while you go about your work and leisure during the beginning stages.
9:27 PM
I don't think there's much use in trying to have a conversation with your tulpa when you know that they aren't sentient.
9:27 PM
Having a conversation meaning sitting down and talking with them alone, not doing anything else.
Avatar
Narration is one of the best forms of forcing early on
Avatar
When I ask her questions, occasionally I get responses, but I'm waiting until it gets a little better to sit down and really work on our communication.
Avatar
Narration is a must, imo.
Avatar
When I said I was hesitant to suggest it, that was only because I'm a little new to this in comparison to almost everyone else here. (edited)
9:37 PM
I recommend he take the words of those more experienced than I.
Avatar
💜 Hibiki 💜 & {Luna} 7/15/2018 9:37 PM
I narrated to Hibiki as much as I could.
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/15/2018 11:38 PM
Now, when you guys say narration, what do you mean? Like just mentally saying what your doing everyday?
Avatar
Talking to your tulpa about anything
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/15/2018 11:42 PM
Ah, okay
Avatar
I thought narration was specifically talking about what your doing/things you notice
Avatar
It can be, but I see no need to limit the definition to just that
11:45 PM
you can narrate to your tulpa about anything
Avatar
Awful thats probably normal, im also a beginner and im about 2 months in without any response, but i have heard that progress can be slow and gradual. (edited)
Avatar
you've heard correctly
12:16 AM
the human brain takes time to incorporate permanent changes, and making/developing a tulpa is a big change

Can we talk to our Tulpa without visualizing him/her?

Yes

they don't need a form any more than you do, really

although many find it good to have something to identify with

I've been visualizing my Tulpa for 2 hours
5:48 AM
I think I'm tired
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 7/16/2018 5:54 AM
just talking to them is the most important thing.

AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/16/2018 7:03 AM
So I've heard that if you roleplay or write stories often, it will be easier for your tulpa can come to life. Can anyone confirm this?
Avatar
Deleted User 7/16/2018 7:04 AM
I haven't heard anything about that.
Avatar
What I have heard is that if you have prior experience in those areas, it is probably likely that your imaginitive (and other) skills, and therefore maybe the skills that help develop a tulpa, will be stronger. (edited)
7:05 AM
Correlation has been noted, but not causation.
7:07 AM
I personally wouldn't advise changing your personal hobbies to potentially promote tulpa growth. There are plenty of tried and true methods. For example, as many people have said all day, simply narrating while going about your usual business is highly beneficial.
Avatar
AwfulLottaAwfulThings 7/16/2018 7:09 AM
Thank you, my usual hobbies include drawing and roleplaying so I think designing my tulpa while narrating will be beneficial
Avatar
Deleted User 7/16/2018 7:11 AM
It won't spoil your tulpa for sure. Just do the forcing in a way you enjoy it.
Avatar
is spoiling your tulpa even a thing that can happen?

I read a little bit of things
